Sophie

Diagnosis: MPS IVa

Country: Switzerland

What makes this individual special, unique and a role model for others?

Sophie has known about her disease for eight years now and is still fighting it very strongly. She does her best to exceed at our local public school, has “normal” kids as regular friends. Even though she has a double handicap with her paraplegia, she consequently follows the regimen to have the best possible care and therapy available.

Proudest accomplishment

She has accepted all the setbacks and disappointments and still is a very happy child. Sophie has many friends who support her. She plays the pan flute even though all doctors believed she couldn’t with her handicapped lung capacity. She (and her parents…) are proud that she doesn’t have the slightest sign of caries despite her typical MPS-teeth.

Words of wisdom about living with MPS

“Die Grösse eines MPS-Kindes wird nicht in Zentimetern gemessen.“ The size of a child with MPS can’t be measured in centimeters.
